The good news is that the name will soon return to the market. Indeed, Nissan has announced that a new Xterra will arrive by 2028. The Japanese automaker has already revealed some interesting details, and certain rumors suggest that it will be powered by a hybrid powertrain combining a V6 engine with an electric motor. That’s exactly the kind of news enthusiasts like to hear—it shows that Nissan is listening to its customers.
Nissan is betting big on the new Xterra, which will be built at its Canton plant in Mississippi. While that’s great news for our neighbors to the south, it may be slightly less so for Canadian consumers, who will likely have to pay a bit more due to import duties. Still, I’m convinced the new Xterra will also be a big hit here.
The first Xterra hit the market in 1999 and quickly won over buyers with its off-road capability and family-friendly size. Unfortunately, the Japanese automaker decided to end production after 2015—Nissan had other priorities at the time. Things have changed since then, and I believe several exciting vehicles will arrive on the market over the next few years. The Nissan Xterra is certainly one of the most anticipated models, and it’s likely to be a major success when it launches.
